Azur Lane Dorm Guide

Because most modifications to the dorm in Azur Lane involve gems and therefore often real money, we made this guide to discuss how the dorm system works and what can you expect from each unlock as a new player.

The purposes of the dorm/backyard:
1. Gaining EXP - ships left in dorm with food to consume will automatically gain EXP and level up.
2. Gaining ship affection and decor tokens - ships occasionally have speech bubbles of heart or decor tokens. Clicking on these popups will increase affection for the ship or gain you decor tokens.
3. Recovering condition/morale/mood(actual English name TBD, waiting for devs to make up their minds) - ships in dorm recover condition/morale/mood faster.

Furniture are purchased with decor tokens. They serve to increase the happiness score on top right.
The higher the happiness score, the more EXP your ships you gain per hour. Click on the face on the top right to view your EXP buff from furnitures.

IMPORTANT: You do NOT need to actually place the furnitures in your room for the score to increase.

There used to be a time on CN/JP when you actually did have to do that. But an update made it so that the happiness score is automatically calculated based on maximum theoretical placement of furnitures. Therefore you can decorate the room the way you like it, without having to worry about hurting your happiness score.

Furnitures are purchased with decor tokens or gems. The girls in the dorm sometimes give you decor tokens. You pick them up by clicking on their coin speech bubbles.
decor tokens can also be gained from commissions and quests.

The boxed part shows the EXP gain of the ship per hour. The rate is determined your happiness score and multiple other factors. EXP is gained by consuming food that you fill in the food bar.

Calculation is as follows:

EXP gain/hour = (240+Player Level*12)*(1+happiness score/happiness score+100)*(1+food%buff)*(ship number multiplier/total ship number)

Player level is your account's level on the top left of your main screen. If you plan to take advantage of the dorm leveling feature, it is not a wise idea to deliberately suppress your player level by using only minimal 2-ship farming fleets.

Happiness score, as mentioned before, is the comfort rating from furnitures on the top right of your dorm screen.

Food%buff is the buff in exp you gain from certain foods. These include curry, royal gourmet and full course. They offer EXP buff in addition of having the normal function as food.

Ship number multiplier is the decreasing per ship gain of exp with increasing number of ships in the dorm, explained by the chart below:

As you can see, the EXP gain PER SHIP decreases the more ships you have in the dorm. However, you are still leveling multiple ships at a slightly decreased efficiency. For the same amount of food consumption, you usually get a higher TOTAL exp gain across multiple ships. You can reference the food consumption chart later in the guide to do your own calculations.

FYI, first floor starts with 2 ship slots. Three more can be added by spending gems.
300 gems for slot 3
500 gems for slot 4
800 gems for slot 5

For reference, this is a graph showing how much EXP buff you can expect with increasing happiness (from buying more furnitures).

As you can see there is diminishing return and you can only realistically get to about +80% boost.

Food is consumed for ships to gain exp

The maximum food you can put in is 40000 by default. With expansions it can be increased to up to 90000.
Each expansion raises the cap by 2000.

Expansion prices are as follows:
40000->60000, each expansion costs 100 gems
60000->90000, each expansion costs 200 gems.
To go form 40000 to 90000, you need to spend a total of 4000 gems.

Food consumption rate increases with increasing number of ships in dorm. See below:

Dorm Expansions
You have the option to expand your dorm area at a cost.

After each expansion there is an immediate increase in happiness. The extra area can fit more furnitures to increase your maximum theoretical furniture placement to increase happiness further.

NOTE: Second floor expansion is not available on EN at the time of this guide.

The second floor will open up a lot of space for your furnitures.
In addition, it provides 5 slots for your ships. HOWEVER, these slots do not serve the same functions.
1st floor slots are used for gaining exp and recovering condition/mood/morale.
2nd floor slots are used ONLY for recovering condition/mood/morale.

The rates are:
1st floor:
Normal ships 40 points/hour
Married ships 50 points/hour

2nd floor:
Normal ships 50 points/hour
Married ships 60 points/hour

(Maximum condition/mood/morale is 150 for a ship.)
